Hands-on Workshop on Preparation and Application of Lime in Heritage Structures

For centuries, lime has been central to building traditions across the world, shaping everything from everyday structures to monuments that define our shared heritage. Today, as conservation practices re-engage with traditional materials, lime is once again at the forefront of how we understand, repair, and build.


This 3-day hands-on workshop at Safdar Jang’s Tomb, Delhi, from 24 to 26 April 2026, offers an opportunity to work directly with lime, understanding its preparation, properties, and application through on-site, material-based learning.


Led by Course Director Ravindra Gundu Rao and organised by World Monuments Fund India (WMFI), the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and Citibank, the workshop is open to architects, conservation practitioners, engineers, students, and others interested in traditional building materials and techniques.

The Department of Museology, Indian Institute of Heritage (IIH), in collaboration with the CIDOC Training Association, is pleased to announce a Five-Day International Training Programme for Museum Professionals to be held from 26 April to 30 April 2026 at the IIH campus, Noida.


The training programme aims to address contemporary challenges and best practices in museum documentation, including documentation standards, photography and digitisation workflows, Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) documentation, integration of digitisation within collections management systems and recent developments such as the EODEM standard.

NEWS: Archaeological excavation has begun at Kumarikkalpalayam in Uthukuli Taluk, Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu.

A systematic archaeological excavation has begun at Kumarikkalpalayam in Uthukuli Taluk, Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu - a site identified as a significant Iron Age and Early Historical site. The excavation commenced in February 2026 and is presently in progress.


This investigation follows an archaeological exploration conducted in 2023, which identified cultural materials dating to the Iron Age and Early Historical periods. The site represents an extensive habitation complex associated with an adjoining megalithic burial area, indicating a well-established settlement with funerary components.


The habitation mound, marked by prominent ashy soil deposits, has yielded a rich ceramic assemblage comprising red ware, black-slipped ware, black-and-red ware, russet-coated ware with decorative motifs, and brown-slipped ware. The recovery of melted iron ore and slag indicates iron smelting activity and sustained occupation during the Iron Age and Early Historical periods.
