Archaeological Survey of India 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗵𝗶'𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗤𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. The 3rd season of excavations at Purana Qila is being led by Shri Vasant Sawarnkar who also excavated in 2013-14 & 2017-18, long after the Padma Vibhushan BB Lal excavations of 1969-73.
During this season, preservation & exposure of the trenches, that were excavated in the previous years (2013-15 & 2017-18) is being taken up. Identified as ancient settlement of Indraprastha, a continuous habitation of 2500 years at this site was established in recent excavations.
At the verge of closure of previous excavation season, evidence of layers predating the Mauryan period was found. The Painted Grey Ware finding in stratigraphical context, is yet to be accomplished.
