Key Changes in ASI's PG Diploma in Archaeology 2025

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recently announced Post-Graduate Diploma in Archaeology program for the 2025 session. Here's a breakdown of the key differences compared to the previous year:


Duration of the ASI's PG diploma Course

  • Previous: Two-year course


  • New: One-year course


Eligibility Criteria of ASI's PG diploma

  • Previous: A broader range of subjects, including Ancient or Medieval Indian History/Archaeology/Anthropology/Geology (with knowledge of Pleistocene age)/ Pali, Prakrit, Arabic or Persian and Indian Classical Languages such as Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam & Odia were accepted.


  • New: The eligibility criteria have been narrowed down, primarily focusing on Master's degrees in Ancient or Medieval Indian History and Archaeology.


Sponsored Candidates

  • Previous: 04- Sponsored candidates from State Archaeology/Universities, 08- Sponsored candidates from SAARC & BIMSTEC Countries through Ministry of External Affairs


  • New: Now only 02 seats for state Archaeology or University sponsored candidates and for SAARC & BIMSTEC Countries sponsored candidates there will be no limit.


Total Seats

  • Previous: 25 seats


  • New: 15 seats (including Sponsored candidates).


It's important to note that these changes may impact the overall selection process and the number of applicants. Students are advised to carefully review the updated eligibility criteria and application process on the ASI website.
