The Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology, under the Archaeological Survey of India, offers a One-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Archaeology (Please note, earlier they were offering a two-year diploma, but starting from the last batch admission, they have transitioned to a one-year diploma) for students interested in furthering their education in this field. The institute provides students with world-class facilities, including research and stay infrastructure, resources, and hands-on field experience through an India tour.
Admissions to the course are direct and announced through the Employment News portal in in the first/ second week of June and the last date for receipt of application is third/fourth week of July. (Click here to check previous year notification)
Eligibility criteria:
Qualification: A Master's degree in Ancient or Medieval Indian History, or Archaeology, with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. Please note that earlier, Anthropology and Geography students were also allowed, but the criteria were changed last year.
Age: The upper age limit for candidates is 25 years, with relaxations for reserve categories and government officials. Reservations are available for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PH as per government rules.
Seat: There are 25 (old) 15 (revised) seats available, including 13 direct candidates, 04 sponsored candidates from state Archaeology departments or universities, and 08 (old) now no limit for sponsored candidates from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries through the Ministry of External Affairs.
Stipend: Students will receive a stipend of Rs. 8,000 monthly in addition to travel allowances during the course.
Interested candidates should apply online through the ASI website and submit their final year mark sheet to qualify for the written test. The selection procedure will consist of a written test and a personal interview for shortlisted candidates.
